Week 4

Educational Goals:

            My educational goal in the CS program is to become a well-rounded computer science professional. While I'm already engaged in the Software Engineering industry, there is much more for me to learn. Based on my CS Individual Learning Plan, I know that the CS program will equip me with the knowledge I need to be successful. Following my achievement of a bachelor's degree in computer science, I'd like to work towards a master's degree.

Career Goals:

            I'd like to achieve a role in Software Engineering that allows me to learn new technologies and allows me to grow. I'd like the ability to work on challenging projects that bring meaning to the world and have a positive impact. It would be ideal to be able to work on projects in multiple business areas in order to learn about the various ways technology is being used.

ETS Computer Science Test:

            I feel comfortable taking the ETC Computer Science test in 18 months. I have experience In all of the topics mentioned in the test outline. While I'll need to learn more in the subject areas, I'm confident in my ability to pick up the information quickly and effectively. Im confident I could be in the 80th percentile. 

This Week:

            I enjoyed this week's readings. I especially enjoyed the reading about career goals needed to success. I enjoy reading articles that provide professional advice and often find them to be quite helpful. Something I need to work on more is networking and tracking accomplishments. Often times I spend my time working and trying to get tasks done and worry less about stepping back to look at what I've achieved, or looking around to see who is around me that I can form a relationship with. This week I also learned about my team as part of the CollabU modules. My team and I were able to learn more about each other's workstyles and conflict styles, which I believe will improve our communication going forward.

    Hi Zach, your plan is good, but I would suggest you pick your field as the computer science field is vast. This will help you to focus on your goals and get relevant internships and required certifications.

    Hi Zach,

    I plan to be a professional myself. I am thinking about a computer job that offers me flexibility and skills to be successful in the computer field. I am planning to find an internship that will expose me to various fields withing the tech industry. Glad to hear that your job offers you some great experience regarding technology.

    Hi Zach, I like your plan but I agree with Wai that it might help to pick a specific field. Regardless, I respect that you are letting curiosity lead your plan. I feel like picking a specific field and digging your heels down can be a bad decision at time. It is usually better to just be curious and let your field come to you.

    The most interesting thing I have learned about in my reading of "Software Engineering at Google" are how each of the various processes are executed. While I am familiar with most of the processes I've read about so far, including code reviews, unit testing and system testing, the manners in which these are executed at Google are different from how they have been executed in my professional experience. Capstone Project Week 10

   What did you accomplish this week? This week I looked into integrating the stac-browser container within the docker compose YAML file provided in the stac-fastapi-pgstac project. In addition I cleaned up some unnecessary data included in STAC items written by our parser as well as read further documentation from the National Hurricane Center on how I can do additional parsing on dropsonde remark messages. I also published a build and tested docker image including our team's parsing tools to docker hub to allow it to be pulled from our AWS instance. What is your plan for next week? Next week I will work with my team to get our STAC Server running and hosted within an AWS server for demonstration and testing with our stakeholders.  What challenges, if any, are you currently facing in project development? Capstone Project Week 11

What did you accomplish this week? This week I pushed updates to our parser development branch which included additional parsing for remarks and removal of certain metadata properties that were unnecessary for describing the who, what, when, and where of a dropsonde message. In addition I was able to get our parser, STAC API, and STAC browser containers running and hosted AWS, load our STAC database with STAC items using our custom API endpoint integrated with our parser, and test our application's availability on the internet. After confirming our application's accessibility, I scheduled a demonstration with our mentor to show our progress and attain feedback. What is your plan for next week?
